Scalp micropigmentation is a new cosmetic procedure that provides the illusion of a fuller head of hair. Here we share some of our top aftercare tips so that the tattoo heals well and looks its best.
What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
It’s a procedure where an electric tattoo device implants thousands of tiny dots of pigments into a scalp, filling in gaps created by hair loss. It is most used by people affected with hair loss, balding, alopecia, and thinning hair.
Aftercare Tips
Here we share some of our top scalp micropigmentation aftercare tips.
Day 1 – 4
During this period, it’s crucial that you keep your head dry, so try to avoid any kind of water. People who live in warmer countries often use air conditioning to reduce the likelihood of sweating. Try not to touch your scalp, even if it gets itchy.
Day 5 – 7
At this point, you may start to exercise gently. You are likely to start to feel some irritation as your tattoo heals, so it’s important not to scratch your head. Only use natural products to wash your hair, as chemicals will cause inflammation.
Day 8 – 14
By now, you should start to see some signs of healing. As part of your scalp micropigmentation aftercare, make sure not to pick your scabs. If you use moisturizer, only apply a very thin amount, as directed by your tattooist. Your scalp can now be washed, but only with sensitive antibacterial soap.
Day 15
You can return to a normal hair care regimen as the healing process is close to completion. If this is taking a little longer, continue to follow the steps above. Only use gentle products that don’t contain alcohol and Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, and book in for your follow-up appointment.
Long-term Care
As you go forward, you’ll still want to pay more care to your scalp than usual. For example, if you go swimming, make sure that you properly wash your hair to get rid of the chlorine. Similarly, your scalp will be more sensitive to sun exposure, so always use sunscreen.
The Round-Up
Aftercare is important to avoid infection, particularly when a large and relatively sensitive area like your scalp is tattooed. But scalp micropigmentation aftercare is also important for the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo, so it heals as well as possible.
So make sure to follow these top tips if you get a micropigmentation procedure.
